I’ve been doing research into what makes a ‘great’ photograph, and there is a huge amount of ideas out there. Now my wife says that I love to boil everything down to it’s simplest components….shes right…and it drives her nuts. However, in this case I think it helps (of course I always thinks it helps 🙂 )
From what I have learned so far it almost like thinking about a photo as setting a stage for a play. You need the right backdrops, you need the correct lighting, and then you put your star on the stage and let it come to life.
I don’t know, is that enough said….It’s as simple as I can explain my current understanding of it.
In everything I’ve seen background, lighting, and subject are key to any great photo. You want this and don’t want that in the background, make sure the lighting helps show off your star (subject), and make sure your subject is the focus….set the stage. Then make sure the action of the play…in this case the photo…tells your story.
