They say trauma, dreams, energy, and emotions are stored in the body.
I remember long ago (what feels like a different lifetime now) hearing things like that and hearing ‘woowoo’ alarms go off in my head.
As I have grown older, and perhaps gained some wisdom along the way, I feel much different about that statement. To me, this is now a verified fact.
This conviction comes from countless years of self-observation. As I worked through long-held traumas, old pains faded away with them. As I recalled dreams, I started to feel physical sensations as if they were being released to me. As I meditated, I started to feel tingles, pressures, and movements that seemed to shift based on my state of mind.
All this and more has me convinced.
The language of my body has become increasingly clear as I continue to observe and record. Now though, I find myself peering deeper.
It’s strange how things that don’t seem to be related at all, later seem to connect. I often find dreams hold answers, if we are open enough to hear them.
In this case I have a recurring nightmare since I was a child, that through some fractal, nebulous turn seemed to lead right back to where I am now.
A UFO or aliens would show up, I’d start hyperventilating, and I’d wake in cold sweats. The last few years though, when ‘they’ showed up, I still stayed hidden in fear, but there has been a building curiosity and less panic.
I’ve been wondering alot about what would happen if I allowed them to take me.
Then, finally, ‘they’ showed up again. This time they came through a giant nose. I ran in fear, hid behind a door, but they seemed to ‘phase’ through the door anyway. I started to hyperventilate. I sat petrified in fear. They kept coming closer and closer.
But then…then I suddenly thought: ‘No’. I took a deep breath and felt the panic fall away.
I was completely changed. The fear, the petrification, the hyperventilating all lifted away. I found myself gleefully greeting them. I found there was nothing to be fearful of. So they took me up in their ship, the fear gone.
Onboard I remember we became friends, and they taught me things, though I don’t recall the specifics.
The following day, the dream had stuck with me. More the alien part then the nose part.
I didn’t consciously try to ‘do’ anything different, but I naturally and suddenly became hyper-aware of how often I stop breathing during the day when confronted with something. How often my neck tenses when something confronts me.
On some level I was aware of this before, but suddenly I seemed super-attuned to it.
I started to recognize that if I enter a state of fear, panic, or stress, all I need to do is remember what the body feels like in a state of balance, remember to breathe, and gently let the body fall back into homeostasis.
As the body returns to equilibrium, the emotions shift to a place of calmness on their own.
I’ve been observing this for a few days now, and it feels like being handed a new superpower. I’m not saying I’ve reached some kind of mastery, but there is something here worth paying attention to.
The potential seems endless.
I had been reading a book ‘The Secrete Mind’ by Bonnie Buckner.
After this dream, I read her chapter on the ‘life plan’. She essentially speaks about becoming aware of how different ‘states’ like fear and love feel in you body. Then using those as an anchor that you can return to when you feel your state shift.
It’s interesting to see seemingly independent dreams, waking experiences, and even a book I’m reading all weave together into a single tapestry of an experience.
As always, all that is left now is to continue to follow this path and see where it leads next.
