I was recently sitting down to eat lunch with someone when I shared some ideas for a wind chime I’d been designing. She looked at me and said, “Wind chime?” I said yes. She said that just seemed like not my kind of thing.
I stopped for a moment. She was right—it would not typically be something I would make.
So how did I get here?
I paused to figure out the answer for myself before I could even respond to my companion across the table.
“Well, it came to me in a meditation,” I said. “I felt it needed to be done.”
She still looked puzzled. A look that said, “Okay… but still, a wind chime? You?”
Then a spark flashed. The words started pouring out of my mouth, even before I knew what they were.
I found myself explaining that during meditation, I’d had a flash of a garden bee sculpture, and I felt like something like that would be the perfect project right now.
It was actually perfect. The chimes produce vibration and sound. Something I had been thinking deeply about lately. How vibrations form patterns.
The geometry of a beehive, again something that harks back to my work over the past month practicing sacred geometry techniques.
The bee as a messenger, moving energy and creating honey. That also felt right given the work I’ve been doing.
The wind blowing into the chimes, forming vibration. Like the wind bringing something new, creating a new sound. That reminded me of a recent sense I have had of ‘something’ forming in my life, just not quite taken shape yet.
The wind chime was almost a poetic sculpture of my focus from the past weeks of my life, taking physical form. My face lit up as the words came from my mouth and I heard them for the first time myself.
A realization of the interplay taking place ignited.
I finished by explaining how I’ve been working to call in more creative sparks to my life. Completing this wind chime feels like the perfect way to honor a creative spark on the heels of that work, and to cultivate many more sparks in the future and perhaps the past.
So, I wonder. Was the wind chime a physical echo of my inner-world at the time?
It has been said, “As above, so below, so below as above.” Or perhaps another way of putting it: “What is within must also be without, and what is without must also be within.”
The more I pay attention, the more evidence I see of this simple statement.
