Astrology as a Language of Spirit

I had a flash of insight today while going through my journal and astrological alignments during those dates.

People often ask whether the planets are sending us energy, some external force acting upon us that we need to respond to, work with, or resist. That perspective might not be entirely wrong, but the more I study astrology and observe how the outer world mirrors the inner world, the more I feel that astrology is not about external influence. It’s about interpreting the language of spirit.

Just as dreams speak to us in metaphor and symbol, astrology speaks through planetary motion and alignment. Both are symbolic languages of the deeper self, ways the soul communicates with the conscious mind. The planets, like dream symbols, do not force events into motion. Instead, they offer mirrors for inner truths—archetypal patterns rising to the surface of our awareness.

When we look at a birth chart or a transit, we’re not witnessing causal forces so much as reflections. We are observing ourselves in motion. The planetary alignments provide metaphors that help us understand the often unseen aspects of our psyche. In that sense, astrology is not something that happens to us, it is something that reveals what is already happening within us.

This is a shift in thinking. Rather than asking what the planets are doing to us, we begin to ask what they are showing us. Instead of resisting or fearing transits, we engage with them as invitations to explore our own consciousness. Astrology becomes less of a predictive science and more of a spiritual dialogue, a reflective tool for self-awareness and integration.

This perspective also opens the door to understanding the relationship between personal astrology and mundane or collective astrology. The same planetary patterns that speak to the soul of the individual also resonate with the collective psyche. The macrocosm and microcosm reflect each other. In this way, astrology reveals a fractal nature of consciousness, the self as part of the greater whole, and the whole as reflected in the self.

To say that the planets are sending us energy to deal with is to misunderstand their function. The planets are not external enemies or allies. They are symbols in the mirror, reflecting our inner states, desires, conflicts, and possibilities. They offer us a way to see what is otherwise invisible, just as a mirror allows us to see our own face.

Astrology is not about control or defense. It is about presence. It is about awareness. It is about listening to the language of spirit as it speaks through the rhythms of the cosmos, and remembering that we are not separate from those rhythms. We are woven into them.
